How We Do It

Students docs
  • At the heart of the Standardized Patient Program (SPP) are our dedicated Standardized Patients (SPs) also known as Simulated Patients (SPs) or Simulated Clients (SCs). These highly skilled educators bring professionalism, lived experience, and deep expertise to every simulation, creating realistic and impactful learning environments.
  • The SPP recruits, trains, and coordinates SPs to deliver high-quality simulation and educational services across the University of Toronto’s MD Program, academic departments, and community-based initiatives. Our SPs play a vital role in shaping the future of healthcare by helping learners develop essential clinical and communication skills.
  • SPs are engaged at both the St. George Campus (Downtown Toronto) and the Mississauga Academy of Medicine (MAM). The SPP is currently planning the expansion of its services to the Scarborough Academy of Medicine (SAM).
  • Currently, the SPP supports MD Program learners across thirteen teaching hospitals in Toronto and two in Mississauga.
  • Each campus maintains a dedicated pool of SPs that reflects the rich diversity of the communities we serve - ensuring inclusive, culturally responsive, and authentic learning experiences.
